Mrs. Alice Kirambi – Executive Director

Alice is a community development expert who has devoted her life to developing and empowering women’s agendas. Alice Kirambi is a passionate community leader, development practitioner, and advocate for women’s empowerment in Kenya. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Christian Partners Development Agency (CPDA)—a national NGO committed to advancing community-driven development, social justice, and sustainable livelihoods.

With over two decades of experience in leadership, development coordination, and organizational management, Alice has dedicated her life to empowering women, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for grassroots economic growth.

After completing her studies at a secretarial college, Alice began her professional journey with the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), an employment bureau that opened the door to her lifelong career in service and leadership.

In 1993, driven by her passion for social change, Alice founded the Christian Partners Development Agency (CPDA).

CPDA’s mission is to enhance community self-reliance through training, value addition, sustainable agriculture, women’s empowerment, and participatory governance.

Under her leadership, the agency has implemented impactful programs across Kenya—including projects in Vihiga, Makueni, Kajiado, Narok, Nyeri, Nyamira, Kericho, and Nairobi counties—promoting economic resilience and social inclusion.

More Profile Information

From 2006 to 2014, Alice served as the Secretary General of the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO)—Kenya’s largest women’s movement dedicated to promoting gender equality, social justice, and women’s rights. During her tenure, she championed national programs that advanced women’s economic empowerment, civic participation, and leadership at both local and national levels. Her leadership strengthened the organization’s grassroots networks and amplified the voices of rural women across the country.

Alice was also the first president of the Soroptimist International Union of Kenya, a global volunteer movement for women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls.

Through this platform, she mobilized support for education, leadership, and mentorship programs targeting young women from marginalized backgrounds.

Advocacy and community impact are her things. Alice has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at uplifting rural communities. Some of her notable projects include the “Sponsor a Sister to Beijing” campaign, which enabled women from Western Kenya to attend the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women. Establishing Neighborhood Assemblies—local “village parliaments” that encourage civic participation and dialogue on poverty reduction, governance, and development.

Supporting Water Access Initiatives, which installed over 300 hand pumps in the drought-prone Mangelete location in Makueni County, significantly reducing waterborne diseases.

Leadership Philosophy. Alice Kirambi believes that lasting transformation begins at the community level. Her leadership is rooted in faith, inclusivity, and empowerment, ensuring that women and youth are active participants in shaping their futures.

She continues to mentor upcoming leaders and works tirelessly to build partnerships that drive sustainable change across Kenya and beyond.

She has won many international and local accolades and is very passionate about gender equity. Since 1993, she has successfully implemented many projects worth over 1.2B, equivalent to USD 9,600,000, in Kenya towards the community projects funded by many international development partners, who include Oxfam Novib, the European Union, USAID, UN Women, UNODC, Uraia, and Girl Generation, among many partners.  She is the founder of Neighbors Assembly in Kenya and School Democracy in western Kenya schools. She is a champion for women in leadership, a member of Mandeleo Ya Wanawake Kenya with a strong membership base of over 4m women, and has mentored over 45 local women’s organizations and over 200,000 historically marginalized women in Kenya through CPDA as the Founder Director. She is driven by a strong desire to improve women’s leadership and representation, gender equality, and empowered women to equitably achieve her mission to create a gender-balanced world where women are empowered and included in decision-making levels in our society and globally.

She is a board member of UN-supported EROG and LEAD and a member of ALLIED, where she strongly articulates land and environmental rights defender issues. She is passionate about climate change mitigation measures, reforesting degraded Maragoli Hills in Vihiga County, and promoting agroforestry farming for CO₂ enhancement removal among the small-scale landowners in Western Kenya, Nyamira, and Narok. Alice is a holder of International Diploma Qualifications in Community Development and administrative certificates.
