Integrated Food Security for Sustainable Livelihood

CPDA runs the Integrated Food Security for Sustainable Livelihood Program to strengthen community resilience and reduce vulnerability to hunger. The program focuses on empowering smallholder farmers, women, and youth with skills and resources to increase food production through climate-smart agriculture, soil and water conservation, and improved farming practices. By promoting diversification of crops, sustainable use of natural resources, and access to appropriate technologies, the program enhances food availability while safeguarding the environment.

Beyond food production, the program prioritizes the creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities. CPDA links farmers to markets, supports value addition, and fosters savings and cooperative models that improve household incomes. The initiative also integrates nutrition education to ensure families not only have access to food but also consume balanced diets for better health. By addressing both immediate food needs and long-term livelihood strategies, the Integrated Food Security for Sustainable Livelihood Program contributes to building self-reliant and food-secure communities.

Local Farmers and Networks:

CPDA has established strong and reliable networks across various sectors of the economy, particularly in working with farming communities. One notable group is the Vihiga Small Farmers Network (NINET), which CPDA initiated in 2000. CPDA has strong working relations with other community Based Organization including Chiengwe Village Youth Group (CVYG) of Nyamira County where 200 women Climate change Champion were trained in 2016 to enhance climate change literacy.
